President's Report
On Monday night, our members enjoyed a social night out with the Moe Inner
Wheel Club at the Moe Thai Restaurant. It was a very enjoyable evening with
great company and good food, and a wonderful opportunity to strengthen the
connection between our two Clubs.
On Tuesday morning, Dave Swainsbury from the Rotary Club of Morwell and
myself attended the Girls in Blue Day at the Moe Town Hall to support the
Morwell Proactive Policing Unit. The purpose of the day was to explain to
students how to apply to join the Police Force, outline the opportunities
available, and provide an understanding of what to expect once accepted.
Senior Constable Courtney Ekemburg delivered a presentation to students
from Lowanna College, Warragul High School, Neerim District Secondary
College, MaristSion College and Lavalla Catholic College Traralgon. She
explained that once accepted into the force, recruits undertake a twelveweek
intensive training program at the Victoria Police Academy, combining legal
instruction, practical skills, and tactical training. Recruits are also paid
throughout their training.
After four years of service, officers can apply for specialist roles such as the
Dog Squad, Drug and Alcohol Unit, Air Wing, Water Police, Federal Police, and
many other specialised areas.
At the conclusion of the presentation, students met with various police officers
who were able to speak with them about the areas they were most interested
in. Senior Constable Courtney Ekemburg and Senior Leading Constable Claire
Donlan reported that it was a very successful and engaging day.
PROGRAMS What's On!
Please note the following program information for the month of September -
September 7: "Know Your Music"
How good is your memory? Now is the time to search through your old vinyls and cassette tapes.
Monday's program will present you with song titles and singers/bands from the fifties to the nineties.
Your job is to match the bands to the song titles on your very own scoresheet.
It's not a competition, rather just a bit of fun. Perhaps a prize or two.
(Singing the songs in your head or out loud is quite permissible.)
September 14: Willow House Community Food Bank.
This not-for-profit supports the community in food relief and mental health support.
In addition they endeavour to build stronger, kinder community connection.
I require an emcee to liaise with Enzo (and possibly 2 additional team members who will pay for their meals) on the evening.
Don't be bashful in taking your turn to volunteer your services.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES:
RJCA UPDATE:
Elizabeth Street PS
I visited there on Thursday last week.
Amazingly they still have 16 students in the program (History dictates that this will reduce, but not as yet.)
Unsurprisingly, they were working in 2 teams of 8 on Woodwork and Gardening.
Willow Grove and South Street PS are both struggling with just 2 and1 students going the distance.
Quite an attrition rate this year with new teachers in charge. Albert Street PS
Robin and I dined with the ASPS RJCA students and teachers in the staffroom on Wednesday 2 September.
The students prepared invitations, purchased the food items, distributed menus, collected our payments, prepared the food and served the meal (2 course.)
With options such as bruschetta, vol au vents, chicken wings, fried rice and salads, they did an amazing job.
We both thought that this was truly Rotary in Action through our young people. Heart-warming stuff.

Botanic Garden Playground – Cleanup Roster

A Trip Down Memory Lane
From the archives .............the mid 2000's
2003-04
Rotary Centenary House Project was established through the Latrobe Group of Rotary Clubs.
Project “Rubbish” was proposed as a fund-raising activity for the project, which consisted the publication of a book written by Simon Klapish and Chris Barfoot titled “Rubbish”.
The relocation of the Rotary Sundial to the front of the entry building at Old Gippstown.
Maintenance at the Gatehouse Gardens including the final connections of the watering system. The foundations of the Rotary Shed were commenced on land adjacent to the Moe Racing Club.
2004-05
International Youth Exchange both incoming and outgoing supported, sponsorship of successful nominee for outgoing GSE team to visit Denmark.
FAIM project to the Solomon Islands.
Rotunda was restored and re-located in the Botanic Gardens and the Memorial Wall was constructed.
2005-06
The highlight of the year was the support the Club has given to Youth Programs, with every program available to youth sponsored by the Club.
The Club supported the Lowanna Alpine School Project to obtain a permit to erect a Fishing Platform at the Narracan Creek.
2006-07
One of the major highlights of the year has been the opening of the Rotary Centenary House on the 2nd of September 2006.
The Student Pride of Workmanship Awards were held at Old Gippstown for the first time.
The Fishing Platform at the Botanic Gardens was completed.
